Q: How do I begin therapy with Alex?

Tell me why you feel the need to see a therapist and what you're expecting.
Make an appointment for an initial consultation. During this session the situation is assessed and it's decided if we are a good match.
Some goals may be set in this initial session and a treatment plan will be discussed.
Depending on the problem, the length, frequency and number of sessions may be discussed.
Q: Do I need to bring anything with me to the session?
A: Be prepared to complete a couple of forms. These will include some medical history, family history and background, any documents you feel relate to your problem. Above all come prepared to share.
And please don't forget your insurance information and/or payment as discussed prior to your session.
Q: How much does it cost?

Q: I don't have insurance and I don't make much money :( can I still see you.
A: We have a sliding scale system for those faced with financial difficulties. I'm here to help my fellow human beings find a better life, I'll do everything possible to make the financial side easier and affordable.
Q: How long do I have to attend therapy?
A: Depending on what problems we're addressing, the length of therapy varies. The Humanistic approach is about finding the quickest path to a healthy life. Some problems can be addressed and overcome within only a few sessions. Others such as addictions may take as long as 3 or 4 months since multiple goals have to be set and we move forward one step at a time.
Q: How long is each session?
A: Most therapists keep their session to about 45-50 minutes. I like to have longer sessions of about 75 minutes, and as we get to know each other better, we may increase or decrease the length of the sessions.
Q: Who decides when to end the therapy
A: Usually as a team, the therapist and the client decide together when to bring the therapy to an end, however the client is free to decide to end the treatment at anytime for whatever reason.
Q: What if I miss a session? Do I have to pay for it?
A: Clients are encourage to keep all appointments, however life is life and things change. I'd like to have my clients cancel their appointment well in advance so I can allocate that time to another client. For details of cancelations and charges, please see my Payment/Insurance page.
Q: Can I call you out of hours?
A: I'm here for my clients. In the event that it should become necessary for you to talk to me, you can call me at any reasonable time. In cases of emergency please call 911 for immediate help.
Q: Can I see you without an appointment?
A: if you need a session and you don't have an appointment, call me. I may have a cancelation or free slot that you can take.
